November 30, 2023

Pérez-Llorca and the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía have signed a cooperation agreement with the aim of promoting the training of young professional musicians and contributing to the dissemination of culture.

Paloma O’Shea, Founding President of the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía, and Pedro Pérez-Llorca, Managing Partner of Pérez-Llorca, signed a collaboration agreement this afternoon which will see the firm participate in the work of the Escuela Reina Sofía, a musical institution of great international prestige based in Madrid. The event was also attended by Julia Sánchez, the school’s director general, and Isabel Jiménez, the company’s director of corporate social responsibility.

For the Escuela Reina Sofía, this agreement is part of its proactive policy of forming alliances with relevant and prestigious organisations and institutions that help it to develop and expand its mission of supporting talented young people in their personal and artistic development and bringing the best music to all audiences.

Through this agreement, Pérez-Llorca will support the creation of a chamber music ensemble within the Reina Sofía School, which will be called the "Pérez-Llorca Haydn Quartet" from the current academic year 2023-2024. This agreement highlights the importance of ensemble music in a musician’s training, as an indispensable complement to his or her skills as a soloist and participation in an orchestra".

The signing of this agreement also underlines Pérez-Llorca’s commitment to shared values such as quality, talent and inclusiveness, as well as to the development of art and music.

The members of the Pérez-Llorca Haydn Quartet for the current academic year 2023/2024 are Cecilia Novella, violin; Jimena Rojas, violin; Adriana Snape, viola and Alba Urbano, cello.

In addition, Pedro Pérez-Llorca, Managing Partner of the firm, will join the Board of Trustees of the Queen Sofía School, the highest representative body of this professional centre.

Paloma O’Shea, founding president of the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía, said at the signing ceremony: "Since the school’s inception, we have worked to support the young artists of the future, both in their personal development and in their artistic progress. We give them the opportunity to study with great international maestros and to perform in important concert halls, because we see the stage as an extension of the classroom. This quartet, supported by Pérez-Llorca, will promote the experience of its members, who will realise the value of chamber music by feeling that they are part of an ensemble in which they must develop interaction and coordination with the other performers".

For his part, Pedro Pérez-Llorca, managing partner of Pérez-Llorca, added: "This collaboration with the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía combines two pillars on which the firm is based. One is our commitment to helping young people in their education and professional development, and the other is our commitment to promoting and supporting cultural initiatives. We are honoured to know that through this initiative we are contributing to the progress of this group of young talents and to the development of art and music".

Founded in 1991 by Paloma O’Shea, the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía’s mission is to support young musicians in their artistic and personal development and to bring music closer to society. It is inspired by three main values: educational quality, in terms of academic, artistic and managerial aspects; social commitment, in terms of inclusiveness and impact on society as a whole, especially on the most vulnerable sectors distanced from music; and continuous improvement, driven by a spirit of growth and innovation. Each year, 160 students of over 30 different nationalities study at the school free of charge, selected solely on the basis of their talent.

They receive personalised tuition from the best specialists in the world and perform in more than 300 public concerts organised each year in the most prestigious venues in Spain and abroad, with more than 70,000 people benefiting from this wide-ranging artistic programme.

Its more than 850 alumni hold prominent positions in orchestras, develop successful careers as soloists, enriching the international music scene for years, or teach young musicians in the best music schools.
